There's this one house in Ulverstone, Tasmania that's had a Linux sign out the front for years. No context. Just chilling in the front yard. I have no idea why.

@ConnyDuck Do you accept any other non-Patreon mechanism for donations?

It doesn't seem like you can accept payments via LiberaPay at the moment.

Any sysadmin ready to host something icky and receive a spike in traffic?

Serbian government shut down a comedy show and the TV network decided not to air the last episode episode last night: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ve%C4%8D

Of course, it leaked, but it has been already removed from YouTube and DailyMotion.

One could say they've A/B tested the entire movie.

I would recommend against pirating the new Black Mirror film.

You really do need a Netflix account and a remote in your hand while watching it.

But damn it, world's first interactive film you can stream today is a Black Mirror film. How cool is that?

On January 1st, the EU is launching 14 bug bounty programs for popular open source projects. (<-- this sentence really feels awesome to write)

VLC, KeePass, Notepad++, Filezilla and Drupal, just to name a few. juliareda.eu/2018/12/eu-fossa-

In an attempt to simply the terminology in the fediverse, I propose we start referring to "instances" as "neighborhoods". Here's a short pitch:

Each neighborhood:
* Has its own set of rules.
* Has its own "guard" (sysadmin) that makes sure there are no incidents.
* Is usually (but not always) focused on a common theme.

You can send an update to:
1. A specific person.
2. Your own neighborhood.
3. Entire network.

IMO this proposal would make things about 30% easier to understand for newcomers.

This week, a member of the United Kingdom’s Parliament published 250 pages of internal documents from Facebook.

Here are some of the key points to pay attention to.

A successful Dutch model of ad-free journalism is trying to raise funds to launch an international version. They're 2/3 of the way there with 5 days to go.

Please read their 10 principles and decide for yourself if this is the type of journalism worth supporting.

I would be thrilled to see them reach their goal (if not, we get our money back). They've won me over years ago.

Oh, I get it! I am a very good developer, happily living my life, when I see our Internet going in the wrong direction (to put it mildly). Against all odds, I decide to release my own projects & continue to run my open source projects-very legal & very cool, talked about it on the Internet...

....Lightly looked at working for Google. Put up zero money, zero guarantees and didn’t do the job application. Witch Hunt!

I wanted to compare the writing speed of multiple devices I own, so I did.

Bluetooth is the worst. I can't think of another technology that's as widely adopted as it is completely dysfunctional. Five freaking generations later, I still can't have Bluetooth turned on on both my laptop and my phone at the same time, or it all goes to shit.
